History in Nha Trang

Before getting into the details about the history of Nha Trang, it is very important to know in brief about the coastal city of Nha Trang. Nha Trang is a coastal city and the capital city of the Khánh Ḥa province in Vietnam. This city is famous among people from all over the world because of its clean beaches and excellent opportunities for scuba diving. As because the government of Vietnam has capitalized on its resources, it has been widely recognized as a popular destination for international tourists, it is attracting a huge number of tourists to the Southeast Asia circuit.

It is already very popular with Vietnamese tourists. Nha Trang Bay is amongst the world's most beautiful bays. Tourists can participate in Sea Festival and August- Nha Trang Rendez- vous Festival every 2 years.

Historically, Nha Trang is recognized as Kauthara under the Champa. As a coastal city, Nha Trang has developed in marine science with Nha Trang Oceanography Institution. The Hon Mun which is located in this coastal city, is a marine protected area and is one of the first four marine protected area in the world admitted by IUCN.

History of Nha Trang:

From 17th to 19th century, Nha Trang was completely an empty land and was inhabited by various kind of wild creatures and also was a part of the Hà B?c, Vinh Xuong County, located in the Diên Khánh Province. Nha Trang underwent a rapid change just after the commencement of the 20nd century. In the year1924, the Governor-General of French Indochina by a decree, establish Nha Trang as a small town which comprised of ancient villages, such as Xuong Huân, Phuong Câu, V?n Th?nh, Phuong Sài, Phu?c H?i. Nha Trang was established as the de facto capital of Khanh Hoa Province during the colonial rule of French in Indochina. The offices of administration, which were necessary to get a good administrative infrastructure, like Envoy Office, Commanding Office, Trade Office, Post Office were established in this city.



The history of Nha Trang gets reflected from the historical and religious attractions in this city. Here follows some of them:
  • Po Ngar Cham Towers: This is one of the major religious sites of the city of Nha Trang and carries with itself evidences of the prosperity and culture of that place. This place is located near to the famous Xom Bong Bridge.

  • Long Son Pagoda: The depictions and structures inside the Long Son Pagoda are assets o the country. Moreover, they will give you a precise idea about the prevailing influences of that time. From the depictions you will come to know about several historical incidents which affected the history of Nha Trang in a great way.
